1. Rental Agreement
By completing a booking and signing the digital waiver, you agree to these terms in full. The rental agreement is between you and Hicken Ventures LLC.
2. Equipment Responsibility
You are responsible for all rented equipment from the time of pickup to the time of return. Gear that is lost, stolen, not returned, or damaged beyond normal wear is charged at replacement cost:
- Full kit (lanyard, harness and helmet): $250
- Via ferrata lanyard: $120
- Harness: $70
- Helmet: $60
- Safety quickdraw (included with every lanyard): $25
Only the missing or damaged pieces are charged. Normal wear (scuffs, dust, scratched carabiners) is never charged.
Return photo required. When you return your gear, submit a photo of it inside the locker at gorgegearco.com/return by midnight on your return date. If no return photo is submitted, our locker check is the final record of what was returned, and any missing item is charged at the replacement cost above.
3. Late Returns
Gear must be returned to the same locker by midnight on your return date. Each kit, lanyard or other rental item returned after that carries a $50 late fee.
Gear not returned within 3 days after the return date is treated as lost and charged at the replacement cost in section 2 instead of the late fee.
By completing your booking, you authorize Gorge Gear Co to charge these amounts to your card on file.
4. Cancellations & Refunds
Cancel more than 48 hours before your scheduled pickup date and we will refund your rental in full. Cancel within 48 hours of pickup and we will either move your booking to another date at no charge, or issue a credit valid for 12 months from the original pickup date. Credits are transferable.
Once gear has been collected from the locker the rental is considered started and is non-refundable. Late or unreturned gear is subject to the charges described in sections 2 and 3.
5. Assumption of Risk
Via ferrata climbing involves inherent risks including falls, rockfall, flash floods, equipment failure, and exposure. By renting gear from Gorge Gear Co, you acknowledge these risks and accept full personal responsibility for your safety on the route.
6. Required Waivers
Two waivers are required: (1) the Gorge Gear Co rental liability waiver signed during booking, and (2) the official Uintah County liability waiver, which must be carried on the route.
7. Weight Requirements
Renters must weigh between 90–265 lbs (40–120 kg) for the energy absorber on the via ferrata lanyard to function correctly. Renting outside this range is prohibited.
