About the Ashley Gorge Via Ferrata Vernal, Utah

The Ashley Gorge Via Ferrata is the longest public via ferrata in the Western Hemisphere, located in Ashley National Forest just outside Vernal, Utah. Climbers work up fixed steel rungs anchored straight into the canyon wall, cross two suspension bridges high above the river, and move across several exposed, cable-protected sections along the way.

The route is self-guided and open to the public from March 1 through November 1, sunrise to sunset — no guide required. The full day takes 8–10 hours; half-day options run 4–6 hours. To legally access the route you must carry a UIAA-certified harness, via ferrata lanyard, and climbing helmet.
